Project Learning Tree
PLT uses the forest as a "window" on the world to increase students' understanding of our environment; stimulate students' critical and creative thinking; develop students' ability to make informed decisions on environmental issues; and instill in students the commitment to take responsible action on behalf of the environment.
Arbor Day Foundation
The Trees for America program is based upon the Arbor Day Foundation's belief that each of us has a responsibility for wise environmental stewardship. Each year the Foundation distributes millions of trees, fosters tree-care education, and works to help reforest thousands of fire-ravaged acres in our National Forests.
Envirothon
"Envirothon is a problem solving natural resources competition for high school students. In Maryland, the Envirothon is sponsored by the Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Districts (MASCD). Teams of high school age students are tested on their knowledge of the state's natural resources -- soils, forestry, wildlife, water and a current environmental issue. Students visit five "in-the-field" test stations where written and hands-on problem solving is required along with formulating a strategy for increasing public awareness. The event is competitive, education is the bottom line
